Nutrition
Increasingly, news reports tell us of supplements that may fight cancer or increase the function of the immune system. In an effort to provide the best and individualized care, the Burzynski Clinic is now offering nutritional consultations for all patients.
All patients receive nutritional consultations. An initial nutritional evaluation is provided by the staff nutritionist. During this evaluation, which can take over 2 hours, a "typical day's intake" (the usual breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and fluid intake) is reviewed to determine eating habits. Then the specific dietary requirements when on treatment are discussed.
Patients are given adequate time to ask questions and are encouraged to bring in all supplements they take regularly for evaluation. Patients are encouraged, but not required, to take multivitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and digestive enzymes.
Before being discharge, the staff nutritionist again meets with the patient and family to be certain they understand the dietary instructions and to answer questions. Follow-up appointments also are available as needed.
In addition, because certain common drugs and chemotherapy drugs cause vitamin and mineral depletion your need for supplements will also be assessed by your medical history.
