My story regarding the healing of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma is one which I am thrilled to share. I am reflecting back all the way to 5th grade in order to tell you that though at that age I knew nothing about the Christian faith, God gave me a Word. Matthew 5:16 says "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father Who is in heaven." Years later this is my life verse and one that comes into play as I share "my cancer adventure" with you. Certainly my Father in heaven is the One who gifted Dr. Burzynski with his genius.
On February 15, 2002 I felt a swelling in the left side of my groin. The doctor jumped to no conclusions which was such a blessing later because I had not yet heard about the Burzynski Clinic. I went to Dr. Debra Gilliam of Alternative Medicine Associates in Madison, Alabama near my home and through the Electro Dermal Screening test learned that I had Candida. I immediately began to do the things which would help me deal with Candida. I took hydrogen peroxide and vitamin C IVs at Alternative Medicine for several weeks. I also followed the protocol of Dr. Ron Meyers of California. I had his name because we both were in Royal Body Care, a company whose food supplements I had been taking. I talked to him regarding the nodes and to Dr. Debi Drake of Royal Body Care, a doctor who is a Canadian and very nutritionally minded. I researched the work of Dr. Lorraine Day and read the book by Mildred Carter, Body Reflexology. There were others....in other words, I did a lot of research. One of the most helpful was Dr. Patrick Quillan's book and CD, Beating Cancer with Nutrition. From him I learned to eat many raw vegetables and to eat NO sugar. I followed the ten principles of health which Dr. Day puts forth in her videos. I had a needle biopsy from which nothing was revealed. At that same time, July 2002 I had blood work and then a Catscan on July 18th.
My twin sister, Karen, and a friend from Ohio both sent me Dr. Whitaker's Newsletter. I read about the work of Dr. Burzynski. I knew immediately that this was the route I was to take though the word cancer had never yet been uttered by a health care professional. Continued blood work showed that something was amiss. Finally on December 20th, a doctor with whom I had not previously counseled finally said the word, "Lymphoma." I called the Burzynski Clinic and asked how long it would take me to get an appointment there.
Obvious nodes were now in three areas: under the left jaw, in both underarms, and in the groin. My right leg was swollen and eventually both legs were. At the Burzynski Clinic on the 7th of January, 2003, the doctors asked me how much weight I had lost. I said, "None." The truth was that my body had lost weight but the fluid building up in my body had taken the place of the weight loss. The node that was taken out for the biopsy was according to the surgeon "the size of a tangerine."
My biopsy was done on 27 December 2002 and on December 30th, I was given the pathology report, "Lymphoma." I reacted with a casual comment to which the nurse responded, "That is malignancy Ma'm." I concurred. I already knew that I was going to the Burzynski Clinic; I already knew that I was not taking chemotherapy or radiation, and I already knew that this was going to be "My Cancer Adventure," an experience I was going through....."through" being the operative word. I also did more research.
My greatest challenge had to do with my lungs. The night before we flew to Houston, the right lung was filling up. My husband took me to the Emergency Room where 1 liter of fluid was removed from my lung. The ninth day in Houston the lung starting filling again, and we went to a Medical Clinic where 1 ½ liters of fluid were taken from my right lung. I was on oxygen after returning to Alabama and on January 22nd had a surgery called pleurodesis which helps the lung not to continue filling up. When the surgeon on the subsequent visit to his office said, "This will not last." I replied, "That is okay because the problem(swollen nodes around my lungs)for which this procedure was done will be over by the time it wears off." He just nodded an "at-a-girl" nod.
My husband, Dave, and I were at the Burzynski Clinic from 7 - 17 January. I began taking the Sodium Phenylbutyrate on the 8th and had a Rituxan(Immunotherapy) drip on 13 January. On the following Monday I needed my 2nd of eight of these drips. I was seen by an Oncologist here and given that 2nd drip. The Oncologist told me that if I did not take Chemotherapy(and he did mean his), I would be dead within three months. That three-month period was up on April 20th, 2003. It was Easter Day. When the nurse was removing the needle from my arm after the last Rituxan drip, she said to me, "I have never seen anyone improve on Rituxan like you have. I just smiled and said, "Thank God." I had been on Sodium Phenylbutyrate for those same 8 weeks, 36 tablets a day. I was also taking Aminocare, four a day.
In July 2003 we returned to the Burzynski Clinic in Houston. We took along the films from the PetScan. Doctor Burzynski asked me to take the Sodium Phenylbutyrate for another eight months "to insure Lymphoma did not raise its ugly head again." I almost fell off of the chair I was sitting on. I was doing so well and the cost was getting to be too much. I did remain on the Sodium Phenylbutyrate until January 21st of 2004.
It is April 21, 2004 as I write this. I am without disease in my body. I opted to do the AMAS blood test in order to see the results but also in order for the doctors here to see the evidence of my healing. I will repeat the AMAS test in 6 months.
During my life, I have had other challenges. During the 1980s I ran 10 marathons at which time I used a verse which I had used at other interesting times in my life. It is Psalm 121:1,2 and it says, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord Who made the heaven and the earth."
I want you to understand that the very God Who made the heaven and the earth cares about what happened to me AND he cares about what happens to you.
