Carl Eatough

Five years ago, Carl was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had metastasized to his lymph nodes. His diagnosis had been made a year late because of a clerical error.

After his diagnosis, the doctors decided to treat Carl with radiation therapy. Unfortunately, another error occurred in the alignment of the radiation. After Carl received 7,200 rads, the error was found. He had to endure additional radiation therapy, which left him on crutches and in severe pain for 1.5 years.

In June of 1999, Carl’s doctors told him he was in remission. However, Carl wanted to know why his bones ached. A bone scan was performed, which showed the cancer had spread to his bones.

By early December of 1999, Carl had decided to take control of his cancer and his life. On urging of his wife Joyce, Carl decided to seek treatment by Dr. Burzynski. Carl found out about Dr. Burzynski and his treatment for cancer through Dr. Julian Whitaker’s newsletter.

Carl told his doctor of his decision to change his life and said that he had made three plans: 1. he made a golf date with his son for 1 year later; 2. he ordered a new car; and 3. he decided to go to Dr. Burzynski for treatment.

His doctor said that “We can take much better care of you here.” Carl’s response was that he did not want to have his pain controlled with morphine only to die in 6 months.

Carl began taking phenylbutyrate capsules under the care of Dr. Burzynski in January 2000. In February, his tumors were stable. In 2 months, his pain was gone. As of June 2000, five lesions in his bones are reduced in size, as are those in his chest and sacroiliac. Carl says that he feels good, except for some a few side effects.

Carl is able to enjoy a normal life at his home in California with his wife Joyce, his 3 children, and his 6 grandchildren. Carl will be 75 years old in October of this year.
